Newark International Airport Train Transfers

Getting to and from Newark Airport by public transport is very simple and you have several options to choose from.

The most simple and low-cost way will be to take the AirTrain

Take the AirTrain around the airport

The AirTrain can not only take you to and from Newark Airport, however, also around the airport between the different terminals. Furthermore, it can bring you to the rental car facilities, hotel shuttles and the central parking lots. The AirTrain is free of charge for any on-airport travel you want and makes frequent stops around the airport at all times. It operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year. With no traffic obstacles, the AirTrain will leave you without any worries.

The actual travel times from Newark Liberty International Airport Station to the passenger terminals will vary. Please refer to the estimated times below:

  • Terminal C - 7 min.
  • Terminal B - 9 min.
  • Terminal A - 11 min.

Take the AirTrain to and from the airport

With the AirTrain, you get connections to NJ Transit and Amtrak. Simply take the AirTrain to the Airport Station where you can connect to NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak. You will have to buy your ticket at Airport Station to enter or exit the AirTrain system.

If you want to take the AirTrain to Newark Liberty International Airport Station, you can depart from both NYC Penn Station or Newark and take the connection NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak. It will take you approximately five minutes to get from the AirTrain to the train platforms and depending on your terminal, it will take between 7 and 11 minutes to get to your terminal.

From 5 am to midnight, the AirTrain arrives and departs every three minutes and approximately every 15 minutes between midnight and 5 am. On Saturday, the train arrives and departs approximately every 15 minutes from 10 pm to 5 am.

Below you will find a list of the estimated travel times to some of the most popular destinations from Newark Airport. Be aware that the travel times can vary and the list times below are only approximate times.

Via NJ TRANSIT

  • New York Penn Station: 30 min.
  • Newark Penn Station: 15 min.
  • Trenton, NJ: 66 min.

The NJ Transit connection runs between 6 am and 9 pm on weekdays. During this time, you will find at least six NJ TRANSIT trains arriving every hour at the airport station at Newark Airport. Furthermore, there will be four trains arrive every hour between 9 pm and midnight.

Via PATH/NJ TRANSIT

  • Journal Square, NJ: 30 min.
  • Hoboken, NJ: 55 min.
  • 33 Street, NYC: 60 min.
  • World Trade Center, NYC: 40 min.

All passengers can connect with the PATH connection at Newark Penn Station. During most hours every day, you will find that the PATH service runs very frequently. However, this connection runs with a reduced frequency during certain hours of the day.

Via Amtrak

  • Philadelphia, PA: 70 min.

On the Northeast Corridor, the Amtrak service runs between the Airport Station, New York City, and Philadelphia. The trains run approximately every hour. In addition, the Amtrak service also runs to New York City with some trains continuing to or originating from Boston, Massachusetts every hour. This connection provides service to Stamford and New Haven, Connecticut, and intermediate points.

Tickets and prices

The prices of your ticket to or from Newark Airport will vary depending on your destination/departure station. The AirTrain Newark’s additional fee of $7.75 is included in any ticket you buy when you get an NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak ticket to or from Newark Liberty International Airport Station. For children at the age of 11 and under or for any customers who use monthly passes with the airport as the origin or destination, the AirTrain access fee is not charged.
